Our Customer’s Challenge

The client required a cost-effective solution to address the ageing fluorescent lighting within Wardle Academy’s sports hall, which was becoming increasingly inefficient, costly to maintain, and no longer providing the desired quality of illumination for users. The client needed to reduce energy consumption and ongoing operating costs while ensuring the facility remained safe, well-lit, and suitable for community use.

A further challenge arose during the installation phase when the planned scissor lift could not be used due to the risk of damaging the specialist sports hall flooring. This required the project team to quickly adapt the installation methodology, implementing an alternative access solution that protected the floor surface while allowing the works to be completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to the academy’s operations.

The Quartzelec Solution

Quartzelec delivered a full turnkey sports hall lighting upgrade, replacing the existing fluorescent high-bay luminaires with energy-efficient TECTON IP64 High-Bay Luminaire CRAFT II Plus LED fittings.

Working alongside our trusted supply chain partners, we completed a detailed lighting design and lux level calculation to verify compliance with the required illumination standards and ensure uniform light distribution across the 657.26m² sports hall. The scope of works included the provision of all labour, specialist access equipment, plant and associated materials, together with the isolation, removal and environmentally compliant disposal of the existing luminaires and fluorescent lamps. New LED high-bay luminaires were installed, aligned for optimum performance, connected to the existing electrical infrastructure, and fully tested and
commissioned in accordance with BS 7671 requirements.

The completed installation provides a reliable, low-maintenance lighting solution supported by a seven-year manufacturer’s warranty, eliminating the need for routine lamp replacements, fluorescent lamp disposal and regular access equipment hire, while delivering long-term energy savings, lower operating costs and improved lighting quality throughout the sports hall.
