Quartzelec Wrexham Wins JTL Employer Recognition Award for Wales

25 June 2025

Quartzelec Wrexham has been named the JTL Employer Recognition Award winner for Wales, acknowledging its exceptional dedication to #apprenticeship training in the building services engineering sector.

Presented at the annual JTL National Awards ceremony, this accolade celebrates employers in England and #Wales who go above and beyond in supporting JTL apprentices through high-quality training and mentorship, with a commitment to nurturing talent and creating long-term career pathways in the industry.

Apprenticeships are a cornerstone of Quartzelec’s recruitment and development strategy, offering a programme that extends well beyond electrical installation, with apprentices rotating through various business areas and training in a dedicated on-site test room. Each apprentice receives personalised #mentoring, supported by both JTL and the wider Quartzelec team—an approach that has seen many apprentices remain with the company for the long term.

Mel Brown, HR Business Partner – Leadership and Development at Quartzelec, accepted the award and reflected on the team effort behind the success, “Receiving this award is a proud moment for all of us at Quartzelec. It reflects the passion and hard work of our team, mentors, and apprentices. In just five years, we've grown from five apprentices to over 110—an incredible journey that shows what’s possible when you invest in people and believe in their potential.”

She also took a moment to extend special thanks to Michael Smith, JTL’s Training Officer for Wales, whose ongoing support has been instrumental to the Wrexham Business Unit, “Michael’s unwavering support—particularly for our Wrexham Business Unit—has played a crucial role in our journey. His dedication to skills development and championing opportunities for young talent has made a real difference.”

“Quartzelec Wrexham exemplifies what outstanding apprenticeship support looks like” explained Michael Smith, “their commitment to developing talent through structured training, cross-business rotation, and strong mentorship creates a lasting impact—not only for the individuals involved, but for the future of our industry.”

The JTL National Awards are an annual celebration of excellence in apprenticeship training. By recognising employers who invest in building a skilled and resilient workforce, the awards highlight the collaborative efforts that shape the next generation of professionals in electrical, plumbing, and heating disciplines.

This recognition underscores the transformative power of quality training and mentorship—and sets a strong example for others across the sector.
